How to Grow (సోపు,பெருஞ்சீரகம்,सौंफ)Fennel ?

Fennel  is a flowering plant species in the carrot family. It is a hardy, perennial herb with yellow flowers and feathery leaves
It is indigenous to the shores of the Mediterranean.
Fennel is widely cultivated, both in its native range and elsewhere, for its edible, strongly flavored leaves and fruits.

EASY STEPS  TO GROW 

When you want to grow a fennel choose a sunny location

Growing  Fennel in container may not be sufficient as it produces long roots(taproots).

Fennel plant  may need the stalking .

Directly ,  sow your fennel seeds in to the soil.

For better germination soak the seeds overnight before you sow. 

Water well until the  seeds germinate, usually within 6 – 12 days.

This plant needs full sunlight and it grows well in the good sunlight.


Almost Fennel will not be attacked by the pests , anyway keep an eye on aphids .

Fennel plant takes 100 days to become the mature.

Harvest the fennel seeds when they turn from green to brown.

Fennel seeds must dry before you eat , place them in sunlight to become dry . 




USES

In many parts of India , roasted fennel seeds are consumed after meal digestive and breath freshener.

 Many cultures in India and Pakistan ,AfghanistanIran, and the Middle East use fennel 
seed in cooking as one of the most important spices in Kashmiri Pandit and Gujarati cooking.

Fennel is also used as a flavoring in some natural toothpastes. The seeds are used in cookery and sweet desserts.

Fennel leaves are used in some parts of India as leafy green vegetables either by themselves or mixed with other vegetables, cooked to be served and consumed as part of a meal.

Fennel seeds are the primary flavor component in Italian Sauce  .
In Israel, fennel salad is made of chopped fennel bulbs flavored with salt, black pepper, lemon juice, parsley, olive oil.
